The 3rd Dimension + Horrible Alien Brain Monsters From Outer Space Who Like Invading Planets = PURE AWESOMENESS!!!

So Fox's 3D movie is done and done. He put together a wicked soundtrack consisting of some royalty free tracks and a score put together by Tim Gormley (who also starred in the movie). I have to say... what a fun little movie. Fox and I were talking the other day about people's reactions to the previous The Monkey Rodeo Project shorts. Some were good, some were bad and some were... wait for it... "I don't get it". I hate to use the word homage (because I usually end up making myself sound stupid whenever I do) but quite of few people don't understand that the films for The Monkey Rodeo Project are just that. With Bimbo Zombie Killers, a few people had seriously posted some negative criticism on how bad the acting was and how the effects were too cheesy, that Hollywood does it way better. So folks, that's some pretty awesome constructive criticism for movies that were made with money from the director/writer/editor/producer's pocket and were meant to be cheesy-over-the-top-homage-flicks... right. Rambling aside, Fox and I were wondering if people would actually "get" the 3D flick instead of picking it apart. We both came to the conclusion that if people don't "get" (I love putting that in quotes :P) "The Invasion of the Horrible Alien Brain Monsters from Outer Space"... that they just have no movie sense at all. But I'm sure that most people will understand and enjoy the movie like I did. That's it for me for now folks... later!

HOLY SHIT! AN UPDATE!!!!

Like the title says, it's an update! It's been a good long while since I posted on this blog and it's almost spring of 2010 so I'll do my best to bring you up to speed!

Cronus has kind of come to a stand still. Not everyone has recorded their dialog but that's for the better I suppose since Fox thinks we'll have to re-record. It was only Natasha and I that recorded lines so it's not like we have to scrap a lot of recordings. Also, the soundtrack or score hasn't been decided on yet so I think Fox has decided that Cronus will have to sit on the back burner for a while. The trailer can be seen here.

Bimbo Zombie Killers is done and it kicks ass... that's all I have to say about that. If you're on Facebook you can find it here.

Fox's 3D flick "The Invasion of the Horrible Alien Brain Monsters From Outer Space: In 3D" has been shot and edited. Dialog has been recorded and Fox is waiting on the soundtrack. I'm going to be honest with you folks... it was awesome! Look for me playing the boyfriend and an alien brain monster! The trailer can be seen here.

Next up will be the Slasher Flick. Fox has the story pretty well sussed out and we'll be shooting at an actual campground in mid to late May. I'm going to be playing the slasher and that's all I'm going to give away... this is going to be awesome!

Other projects to follow in the Monkey Rodeo saga will be Karl, All About Monsters, Grayson & Gortch, The Untitled Musical and The Brotherhood. Anyway, that's it for the update. I hope that your life in the year 2010 has been swell so far and I'll be talking to you folks soon... enjoy the rest of the 2010 Olympics (if that's your kinda thing)! Later!

Time for an update... gather 'round people!

So I totally forgot about the blog... it might be due to having only 1 or 2 followers. Anyway, Fox, John and I finished shooting the last scene that we needed for Cronus (a.k.a. The Beating) on May 27th. It took us a bit to get started but once we actually got the ball rolling... it didn't stop! Basically, I had to open a door while looking back at a prop phone, walked into a punch, fell on the floor, said a bit of dialog, was thrown into a chair (that we had rigged up to break) by my cousin John, had my head smashed into some breakaway glass frames, had a frame smashed over my head, was thrown around a bit more, had a breakaway glass bottle smashed over my head and the grand finale was (drum roll please)... being thrown through a desk (that was cut in half and propped up with Styrofoam pillars so that it would break easily).

Believe it or not, the scene sounds WAY scarier than it actually was. John did a GREAT job, was awesome to work with and I'm looking forward to having my ass kicked by him in the future (on screen of course)! Fox did up a rough edit of the scene the next day and it looked f@#$ing awesome! At the end of the scene while we were filming me going through the desk, one half of the broken desk had actually hit a stand that we had a lamp placed on and there was a big flash of light before the light bulb burnt out. It looks awesome on the footage (especially in B&W). Well, that was it for filming of Cronus... now all that I have to do is dubbing for it.

Cronus aside, Fox started filming "Bimbo Zombie Killers" on July 5th. It was a grey, overcast day with on again, off again rain. Only a fraction of the people who confirmed that they would be redneck zombie extras (about 1/5 of the confirmed 50 or so) showed up. It turned out to be an OK shoot and Fox seems to be happy with the footage that he shot. Fox, Heather, Rich and myself shot at Heather's "shack" (I love that word) the next day on July 6th. Let's just say that this was one of the quickest shoots that I have ever been involved in... it was fun! I actually prefer working with a handful of people rather than working with a tonne of people that I don't know... but that's just me.

Anyway, Fox finished filming that bad boy the last week. He started his shoot at BEANZ coffee shop and moved on out to Orwell Corner. Again, he seemed happy with what was shot so that's good. Next up is the 3-D movie... I'm loving it!!! I love all of these period films that Fox is doing.... Film Noir, Grindhouse, 50's 3D movie, a documentary, etc. Bloody Brilliant!!! That's it for my update... I'm going back to work now. Later guys!

Four down... one to go.

Well, it was a good shoot tonight. Everyone knew their lines and I felt that it went by really quick. I shot my footage for the trailer, Heather did awesome in her little cameo role, Adrian and Natasha are all done shooting, I shot some exterior shots and now all that's left is the fight scene (or should I say the "Cronus getting his ass kicked" scene).

As I was saying, Natasha and Adrian are all finished up on camera so now all that's left for them and Pete is to dub their lines for the movie. Sometimes dubbing can be a long and tedious process, but the way Fox is dubbing this time around, it should be a piece of cake for everyone.

Anyway, here are a few pics that I had snapped in the middle of the shoot (while we were waiting for it to get dark outside).

Well, that's enough blogging for me. I think I'm gonna go fight some evil. Later guys.

Three down... two to go.

We shot on Sunday, May 10th. It went well. Keir showed up to do his stuff and the first half of the last scene (with Adrian, Natasha and myself) is all kindsa done! Finally, we've progressed from three shoots left and we've advanced to having only two left. So, the next night of shooting will be tonight, the 14th of May. Again, it will be Adrian, Natasha and myself shooting the 6th scene of the movie... then Adrian and Natasha are done filming (they'll still have to dub their lines though). Also, I have to do some exterior shots, film some stuff for the trailer and I get to work with Heather again... YAY! :D

On a side note, it was my 30th birthday on Tuesday. Let me tell you... what a day! There weren't as many, "You're gettin' old" cracks as I had expected. Oh well, I was better off.

So, Fox did up a poster for Cronus and posted it on his blog and Facebook yesterday. I'll post it here but you should hop over to http://bureau51.blogspot.com/ to check it out or become a fan of The Monkey Rodeo Project on Facebook. Anyway, I'm tired and craving leftover ice cream cake. Later!

Two down... three to go (still)?

The shoot at the Lennox Place went OK. Certainly not as quick and smooth as our first shoot... but OK. It was Adrian (playing Lazerus), Natasha (playing Lillith) and myself (playing Cronus) on the roster for the night. Lines were fudged, I didn't shave, Adrian did his best to show up as early as possible (he was working tonight) but he showed up as soon as we were losing our "get-up-and-go" and people applied there own make-up (which is always fun). It's going to be a close one because Natasha leaves for Toronto on the 26th. Anyway, the office scene (not the one where my little/BIG cousin John, who plays Pete's charter Bofa's enforcer, kicks the ever lovin' crap outta me) is done. I wish that we could have gotten more done (waking up early evening and running off of no steam without coffee is not one of my strong points) and I guess we're still stuck at three nights of shooting left. At least we were able to shoot some outside stuff as well as get a little comfortable with the scene we weren't able to complete tonight. Let's hope that we can get that countdown starting again. Anyway... I'm tired, I haven't had a coffee yet today, I'm hungry and I want booze. Later.

One down, three to go...

The first shoot for Cronos went by surprisingly fast yesterday. Other than a few of us mucking up our lines (myself, guilty as charged) and Keir being a no-show, the shoot was awesome. Everyone had no problem getting into character and following direction. I'd have to say that for me, the best part of the shot was being able to work with some new faces. Natasha, Adrian, John and Pete hit their marks and I certainly hope to work with them again after this project. Anyway, there are three more shoots left. I hope that they go as well as the first.

Fox did a wicked job with the prosthetics. If you follow his blog, you'd know that he has been making his own prosthetics and this is the first film that they have been used in. The best part about these prosthetics is that they are custom made for all of the actors involved. We (the actors) have all went through the process of having alginate poured on our faces to make molds for sculpting a mold and Fox sculpts, bakes and paints the actual prosthetic. It's an interesting process... you should definitely go to his blog to check it out. He is definitely becoming more and more proficient at it and I can't wait to see what his future prosthetics look like. He also did a good job at directing us. I'm looking forward to see what's in store for us on Wednesday's shoot.

In other news, Dragonball Evolution didn't suck. It didn't rock (like I was hoping it would) but it didn't suck... that's all that matters. Will a sequel happen? More than likely not, but it was nice to see at least one live action DB film. So other movies that I'm psyched about for the most awesomest month of the year would be Wolverine, Star Trek, Terminator: Salvation and Up. The summer looks a little bleek for movies. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is scaring the ever loving crap outta me (because it's so up in the air on whether or not it will be good), Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince should be good (Ralph Fiennes is always golden in anything he does... even Strange Days), Halloween 2 is looking more and more like a bloated piece of crap with every viewing of it's painful trailer and G.I Joe... I can't really tell if it will kick ass or blow goats.

Well, that's enough rambling for now... I gotta go fight evil and get back to work. Later.

Almost a month into the new year...

Well, not much has changed after the transition from the year 2008 to the year 2009. I still work at a callcentre, I still love video games and I'm still bitching about things that I cannot control. Oh well, at least there are a lot of things to look forward to this year! Like "The Monkey Rodeo Project" and "Street Fighter IV".

Well, Fox has been pretty busy as of late with his work but he is still working on the next installment of "The Monkey Rodeo Project". Even with a lot on his plate he managed to push out a completed version of "The Monkey Rode: Demon Rum", is pretty well finished writing "The Monkey Rodeo: Cronus" and has started learning how to make prosthetics. Honestly, I'm nowhere near as busy as him... even with my schedule changes at work.

I can honestly say that I'm pretty psyched about the possibility of starting work on Cronus with Fox soon. It feels like it's been ages since I filmed something with him. I guess it hasn't been that long, we filmed Demon Rum back in September. Ah well, that's enough of my rambling. I'll post something at a later date when I have more "pertinent" news. Later guys!
